The Canary Islands' Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty, Narvay Quintero, signed a cooperation agreement yesterday (Thursday) with Miguel Villarroya Adell, CEO of Spring Hotels, to boost the promotion and marketing of agro-food products of Canarian origin.
Through this agreement, GMR Canarias — a public company under the Ministry — and Spring Hotels commit to working together on innovative initiatives to bring products from the Canarian primary sector directly to the guests of the hotel chain. The goal is to enhance the sector’s competitiveness, promote environmental and economic sustainability, and strengthen the Canary Islands' reputation as a top-tier gastronomic destination.
“With partnerships like this, we bring the excellence of our local produce to visitors and multiply the positive impact on our territory,” said Minister Quintero. “This also strengthens a solid roadmap for creating opportunities within the primary sector and boosting the local economy.”
He added that the 'Crecer Juntos' (Growing Together) strategy has proven that collaboration between the agricultural and tourism sectors yields tangible benefits for producers, businesses, and consumers alike. “Our aim is to continue deepening this partnership through more initiatives like the one we are celebrating today.”
Spring Hotels CEO Miguel Villarroya Adell welcomed the agreement, stating: “This is not just a one-off decision; it is a further step in our ongoing commitment to local Canarian products and to our surroundings.” He cited the chain’s existing partnership with La FAST, which supports more than 400 local farmers, as a pioneering example. “Now, with this public collaboration, we will continue positioning the Canary Islands as a benchmark in product quality within the tourism offering,” he said.
The partnership falls under the wider 'Crecer Juntos' strategy promoted by the Canary Islands Government to generate synergies between the primary and tourism sectors. The initiative aims to diversify the economy, strengthen rural communities, and project the islands' culinary identity both at home and abroad. In 2024 alone, the strategy connected local products with over 300,000 people through more than 2,500 promotional events and involved more than 200 local producers.
Key Areas of Action
The agreement includes several priority actions, such as:
Expanding Local Reach — Even at 30,000 Feet
In addition to the Spring Hotels agreement, the Canary Islands Government is strengthening strategic partnerships through the 'Crecer Juntos' framework. A recently signed agreement with regional airline Binter, unveiled at FITUR 2025, enables the inclusion of Canarian agro-food products on its flights. GMR Canarias will serve as the main supplier.
This alliance aims to not only increase visibility of local produce within the tourism sector but also to boost its presence in export markets. It enhances the sustainability of the archipelago and enriches the travel experience with authentic island flavours.
Together, these partnerships with Spring Hotels and Binter reflect a governance model focused on sustainable development, economic diversification, and the promotion of Canarian identity — recognising local products as a strategic asset in both tourism and regional growth.
