A car was successfully recovered yesterday (Tuesday) after it accidentally plunged into the water at Corralejo harbour in Fuerteventura earlier that morning. The incident, reported at around 10:30am to 112 Canarias, resulted in no injuries, only material damage.
Emergency teams were deployed immediately. The first responders secured the area to protect bystanders and carried out an initial assessment of the situation.
Because the vehicle was fully submerged, preventing marine contamination became a top priority. Firefighters from Bomberos de La Oliva and volunteers from Protección Civil La Oliva installed floating absorbent barriers around the car to contain any leaking fuel or fluids.
Once the area was stabilised, a specialised crane was brought in to raise the vehicle from the seabed, a technical operation requiring precise coordination among all involved services.
The Local Police and Guardia Civil managed traffic and maintained the safety perimeter throughout the process, while the Guardia Civil’s maritime unit ensured that no boats entered the area.
An investigation is underway to confirm how the vehicle ended up in the water in the first place.
