A Local Police patrol car from the municipality of Tías overturned this morning (Friday) on a road in Puerto del Carmen. The incident occurred at around 9:00 am on the road leading to the Rancho Texas leisure park.
For reasons that have not yet been made public, the police vehicle ended up overturned in the roadway. Images shared by members of the public show the patrol car lying on its roof following the accident. Emergency services were alerted and attended the roadside shortly after the incident was reported.
At this stage, no further details have been released regarding possible injuries or the circumstances that led to the vehicle overturning. The incident caused some disruption to traffic in the area while the emergency response was underway, and the vehicle was dealt with.
Local authorities have not ruled out further information being released as enquiries into the incident continue.
In recent years, police patrols in the Canary Islands have been involved in a number of collisions, with officers sustaining minor injuries. In Gran Canaria, footage from 2022 showed a truck colliding with a Santa María de Guía police car during an attempted stop when the driver lost control of his vehicle. There have also been cases where police were injured during pursuits or intercepting erratic drivers, including high-risk motorway situations where officers have to take fast action to prevent greater harm.
