The body of a woman has been recovered from the sea off the coast of Anaga, as investigators work to confirm whether it is that of the woman who was swept into the water by a powerful wave in northern Tenerife last week.
The discovery was made yesterday afternoon (Sunday) in waters close to the rugged Anaga coastline. The Guardia Civil have confirmed that identification procedures are now underway to establish whether the body is that of Pilar Solaetxe Sánchez, the 30-year-old who disappeared on Wednesday night in the coastal area of Mesa del Mar, in the municipality of Tacoronte.
Following the recovery, the body was brought ashore by boat and transferred to the Instituto de Medicina Legal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where forensic examinations will determine the woman’s identity and the exact cause of death.
The find comes after several days of intensive search operations by land, sea and air along Tenerife’s northern coastline. Emergency teams had been deployed since Wednesday night after the woman was dragged into the Atlantic by a sudden surge while walking her dog near the shoreline during dangerous sea conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have said formal confirmation will be issued once forensic results are complete.
