A 40-year-old surfer is in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest while in the water at Playa Troya in Playa Las Americas yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Quick action from lifeguards, fellow swimmers, and medical teams was crucial in reviving him before he was taken to hospital.

According to reports from the emergency services coordination centre (CECOES), the incident occurred at 1:20pm, when they received a call informing them that the man had been pulled from the water in cardiac arrest.

Before paramedics arrived, lifeguards and several beachgoers had already begun CPR, providing essential early intervention. Their rapid response helped stabilise the situation until medical teams could take over.

SU medical personnel continued advanced resuscitation on arrival and successfully restored the surfer’s heartbeat. He was then transferred by a medicalised ambulance to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, where he was admitted in critical condition.
