A woman suffered a painful ankle injury yesterday (Tuesday) after falling in a remote section of Papagayo beach in Playa Blanca, forcing emergency services to carry out a challenging rescue operation in a difficult area.
Emergency teams were sent out just after 3.15 pm after CECOES received reports that the woman was unable to move and that an ambulance could not access her. Rescue unit Romeo 2 reached the beach alongside Local Police officers and found her with severe pain, swelling, and a clear deformity to her left ankle.
Rescuers stabilised her ankle with a splint and carried her on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. She was then taken to hospital for treatment.
No further details have been released about how the woman fell, but Papagayo Beach is an area known for uneven paths and rocky ground.
The rescue operation ended once she was safely evacuated, and no further help was needed.
