British holidaymaker dies after collapsing at hotel in Puerto del Carmen

A British holidaymaker has died after collapsing in her hotel room in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, during a trip with her husband and friends.

42-year-old Rachel Weston had travelled to the island with her husband Mark at the beginning of October and began to feel unwell during the holiday. She believed she had a cold and visited a pharmacy. She felt better afterwards, but later became ill again.

The couple bought flights back to the UK for 3rd October, but Rachel collapsed before they could travel.

Lifeguards tried to help her before the emergency services arrived, but she could not be saved. The report said she went into cardiac arrest.

The couple had travel medical insurance, which helped cover costs and arrangements for Rachel to return home to her family.

Mark has since started a fundraising campaign to help give Rachel a fitting farewell. The couple had been together for 11 years.
