Passengers arriving in Gran Canaria were taken off their plane and moved to a separate room after a bomb threat triggered a security operation yesterday evening (Monday).
The alert turned out to be a false alarm involving a Vueling flight VY3008 from Barcelona. After landing, the aircraft was directed to an isolated area of the airport, away from the terminal, where security teams could carry out their checks.
Vehicles surrounded the plane as passengers disembarked under controlled conditions.
Passengers taken to a separate room
Travellers were escorted to a separate room while the response continued, keeping them away from the aircraft during the security operation.
The flight had been scheduled to reach Gran Canaria at around 7:50pm. Reports give differing actual landing times, so the precise arrival time has not been established.
The origin of the threat and the number of people on board have not been publicly confirmed.
Airport remained open
Despite the alert, the airport remained operational. Aena said its wider activity was continuing normally while the Vueling aircraft was kept apart from other flights.
There were reports of brief disruption to other departures, including a Binter service to Lanzarote whose passengers reportedly waited on board for around 20 minutes before being cleared to leave.
The incident did not lead to a general closure of the airport.
