FRIDAY WEATHER: Cloudy skies and fading calima across the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands can expect a mixture of high and low cloud this Friday, 30th October, with some lingering calima giving the sky a hazy appearance, and temperatures still above average for the time of year as we head into the Halloween weekend.

Temperatures will see little overall change, although some inland and higher areas may feel slightly cooler. Winds will generally be light, but stronger gusts are possible on Tenerife’s highest peaks.

The Canary Islands Government lifted its calima pre-alert at 10.30am yesterday. It had covered all the islands since Monday, following an arrival of Saharan dust that affected air quality.

Sea Conditions

The sea will be calmer in many sheltered southern areas, while north-facing coasts can expect a north-westerly swell of around one to two metres. Anyone heading to the beach should check the local flags before swimming.

Island-by-island forecast for Friday 30th October 2026:

TENERIFE
Tenerife will see a mixture of high and low cloud throughout the day. The north is likely to be cloudier early in the morning and again later in the day, while cloud will also develop in southern and eastern areas.

There is a small chance of an occasional light shower, particularly inland and in the east. Some light calima may remain visible.

Temperatures will stay similar to recent days, with a high of 25°C and a low of 20°C. Winds will be light near the coast, but stronger south-westerly gusts are possible on the central peaks and around Teide National Park.

GRAN CANARIA
High cloud will pass over Gran Canaria throughout the day, while low cloud is expected in the north during the morning and evening.

Cloud will also build over inland, southern and eastern areas during the afternoon. An isolated light shower is possible, although the chance of rain remains low.

Temperatures will remain warm, with a slight drop possible inland, ranging between 20–26°C. Winds will generally be light, with a south-westerly breeze in higher areas.

LANZAROTE
Lanzarote will have a mixture of cloud and brighter spells. Low cloud is most likely in the north and west during the morning, with some cloud developing in the east later in the day.

The island is expected to remain dry, although a little calima may continue to give the sky a hazy appearance.

Temperatures will change little overall, though daytime highs may be lower in the southeast than in recent days reaching 26°C. Winds will generally be light, with coastal breezes.

FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura will start the day with low cloud in the north and west, while high cloud moves across the island. The lower cloud is expected to break up as the morning progresses.

Dry conditions are forecast, with some light calima still present. Temperatures will remain warm but may be slightly lower, especially inland and in the east, ranging between 20–26°C.

Winds will be light and variable, with breezes along the coast.

Over The Weekend

Looking ahead, the weather could become more unsettled from Saturday afternoon as a low-pressure system approaches the western islands. The forecast may change as it moves closer.
