Temperatures are expected to ease across the Canary Islands today, Thursday 29th October, as the calima is lifting, although it will remain warm in many coastal areas.
High cloud will pass over the archipelago, with lower cloud more likely in northern and eastern areas. There is also a chance of occasional light showers on the more mountainous islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, particularly inland.
Light calima will continue to affect some parts of the islands, while coastal winds are generally expected to be light.
Although the dust is expected to be generally lighter today, the amount in the air can vary between locations. People with respiratory conditions should continue to check local air quality and take precautions if the haze is affecting them.
TENERIFE
Tenerife will see intervals of high cloud, with lower cloud more likely in the north at the beginning and end of the day. Cloud may also develop over inland and eastern areas, bringing a chance of a light, occasional shower.
Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, particularly inland and in western and southern areas. In the south, the forecast for Las Vistas beach points to a high of around 28°C; temperatures will vary around the island.
Coastal winds will generally be light and variable, with sea breezes. It will be windier at altitude, with stronger westerly winds possible around the central summits and Teide.
GRAN CANARIA
Northern and eastern areas can expect some low cloud early and late in the day, while higher cloud will pass over the rest of the island. A few brighter intervals are likely between the clouds.
There is a chance of an occasional light shower inland and in the east, particularly during the afternoon. Temperatures may ease slightly, with the most noticeable falls possible inland and towards the west and south.
The forecast for Maspalomas beach is for a high of around 27°C. Light calima may remain visible, especially along the coast, while winds should be generally light.
LANZAROTE
Lanzarote will have a mixture of cloud and brighter spells. Lower cloud is more likely in northern and western areas early and late in the day, with higher cloud elsewhere.
Temperatures may fall slightly inland and in the west, while southern and eastern coastal areas should see fewer changes. The forecast for Matagorda is for a high of around 29°C, although this will not be the temperature everywhere on the island.
Light calima will continue to give the sky a hazy appearance in places. Winds are expected to remain light and variable, with coastal breezes.
FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura can also expect intervals of cloud, with lower cloud more likely in the north and west at either end of the day. Higher cloud will pass over the island during the remaining hours.
Temperatures will change little or fall slightly, with a more noticeable drop possible inland and in the west. In the south, Morro Jable is forecast to reach around 26°C.
Light calima will remain present, but it should still feel warm in sheltered areas. Winds are expected to be light, with breezes along the coast.
