78 kilos of cocaine seized on a boat in the Santa Cruz port

Customs at Santa Cruz port in Tenerife have found 78 kilos of cocaine with a street value of over 5 million euros, after carrying out an inspection of merchandise and cargo inside a ship of the Grimaldi freight company, that stopped to refuel on its way from coming Santos (Brazil) heading to Antwerp (Belgium).

The inspection was carried out jointly by agents of the Combined Customs Surveillance Unit of the Tax Agency, and the Fiscal Section of the Guardia Civil. Suspicions arose when they discovered rectangular ‘plates’ inside the caterpillar tracks of some heavy machinery.

After further investigation they found a total of 72 of these plates, which when tested proved to 78 kilograms of compressed cocaine. The findings have now been passed over to the Court of Instruction acting as a guard in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, for further investigation into the source of the narcotics.
