The National Police have arrested a man in Fuerteventura accused of playing a key role in a people-smuggling operation moving migrants from Morocco to the Canary Islands.
In a press release they say the gang used inflatable boats to transport people from the coast of Tan Tan across the Atlantic to the Canaries.
The organisation operated with a clear structure, assigning different members to recruitment, transport, logistics, and payment management.
The man arrested in Fuerteventura is thought to have played a key role in handling payments, organising the trips, and helping migrants once they arrived. Police say the network charged more than €4,000 per person for the crossing.
The arrest came after raids on May 28th and May 30th in the town of Antigua, where officers seized six mobile phones, two data storage devices, and documents linked to the criminal operation.
The suspect has since appeared before a judge in Lanzarote and has been remanded in custody while the investigation continues. More arrest has not been ruled out.
