A five-year-old boy who was left in a critical condition after a drowning incident at a hotel swimming pool in Lanzarote, where he was on holiday with his family, has sadly died in hospital.

The Canarian Weekly previously reported that the child had been airlifted to Gran Canaria in a critical condition after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool at a hotel in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza, on Thursday, 3rd September.

It has now been confirmed that, despite the efforts of emergency services and medical teams, the boy was unable to recover and has died.

Emergency teams managed to restore his pulse

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when the five-year-old was pulled from the hotel swimming pool in cardiorespiratory arrest.

A lifeguard at the complex, a doctor and other people at the scene immediately began CPR while emergency services were alerted.

When medical personnel arrived, they continued with advanced resuscitation procedures and successfully managed to restore the child's pulse.

However, due to the seriousness of his condition, he was transferred by medical helicopter from Lanzarote to the Materno Infantil University Hospital in Gran Canaria for specialist treatment.

He remained in hospital in a critical condition, but sadly failed to recover from the effects of the drowning and subsequently died. Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC) have confirmed the child's death.

The tragic news follows the initial report of the incident and confirms the worst possible outcome after extensive efforts by those at the hotel, emergency responders and hospital medical teams to save the young boy's life.
