Two men have been arrested after allegedly robbing a young couple at knifepoint and attempting to stab a soldier outside a military base in Fuerteventura.

The incident happened at around 10:00pm on Monday in Puerto del Rosario, outside the Soria No. 9 Infantry Regiment base. The suspects, aged 49 and 29, were reportedly carrying a knife and a multi-tool blade.

Military personnel spotted four people involved in a disturbance through the base’s security cameras. They intervened after seeing one person apparently attempt to stab another.

The two suspects had allegedly attacked the young man as he tried to resist them. Soldiers moved the young woman inside the base for her safety while others attempted to stop the confrontation.

One soldier suffered cuts to his hand when a suspect allegedly tried to stab him. Another soldier helped restrain the man and remove the weapon.

Several blank rounds were reportedly fired into the air by military personnel to bring the disturbance under control. Police were called and found the soldiers holding both suspects at the military base.

The male victim told officers he had been attacked from behind, grabbed around the neck and threatened with a knife while the men attempted to steal from him. He was taken to Fuerteventura General Hospital for treatment.

Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of violent robbery and making serious threats. The case remains subject to investigation, and the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
