€10 million invested to improve health centres in Tenerife

More than €10 million has been invested in improving health centres and local clinics across Tenerife since June 2023, including new facilities, expanded services and upgrades to existing buildings.

The Canary Islands Government says the programme is aimed at strengthening primary healthcare across the island, with improvements including better accessibility, air conditioning, maintenance work and new treatment facilities.

One of the largest completed projects is the new health clinic in Las Chafiras, San Miguel de Abona, which opened following an investment of €2.2 million. New facilities have also opened in El Sauzal, costing almost €987,000, and Buenavista del Norte, following a further €2.2 million investment.

A new local clinic in Barroso, La Orotava, began operating in May after €1.3 million was spent on the facility.

Several health centres have also gained additional services. New blood testing rooms have been installed at Las Chafiras, El Sauzal and Barroso-Colombo, while another testing facility has opened in the La Laguna-University health district.

The clinic in San José de los Llanos, El Tanque, has undergone a €51,000 refurbishment, including new resuscitation and observation rooms.

Around €3 million has also been spent on maintenance, air conditioning and refurbishment work at primary healthcare facilities across Tenerife.

Meanwhile, construction of a new clinic in La Esperanza, El Rosario, has been completed at a cost of just over €2.3 million. Communications equipment and furniture are now being installed before the facility can open to patients.

Further major investment is planned in Tacoronte, where the regional government has approved almost €6.9 million to expand and refurbish its health centre, which is more than 30 years old.

Plans are also progressing for new healthcare facilities in Fasnia and Tegueste. Work on the design of a new clinic in Fasnia is expected to advance this year, while land has been acquired for a future facility in Tegueste.

The investment is intended to modernise Tenerife's primary healthcare network and increase capacity in areas where demand has grown, improving access to local medical services for residents across the island.
