A man has been arrested at Gran Canaria Airport after more than three kilograms of hashish were allegedly found in his luggage.

The passenger had arrived on a flight from mainland Spain when he was stopped during routine checks on 9th August. According to the Guardia Civil, the man’s behaviour prompted officers to identify him and carry out a detailed search of his luggage.

Several packages containing a plant-based substance were discovered, along with items allegedly used to transport and conceal drugs. Tests later confirmed the substance was hashish weighing more than three kilograms.

The man was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and appeared before the duty court in Telde, which ordered that he be remanded in custody.
