The National Police have arrested eight people and closed two Cannabis Clubs in Playa de las Américas, South Tenerife, as part of an operation targeting the alleged sale of drugs from premises operating as cannabis associations.
The two establishments were located inside a shopping centre in the popular tourist resort and were searched following an investigation into their activities.
According to police, the premises attracted a constant flow of people throughout the day, with holidaymakers reportedly making up the majority of customers.
Officers allege that people stationed outside the clubs actively approached potential customers while also keeping watch for a possible police presence.
Marijuana, hashish and cash seized
Court-authorised searches were subsequently carried out at both Cannabis Clubs.
During the operation, officers seized quantities of marijuana and hashish along with cash allegedly connected to the activity being investigated.
Eight people were arrested as part of the operation.
The investigation centred on suspicions that the premises were being used for the distribution and sale of cannabis rather than operating solely within the activities permitted to cannabis associations.
The two establishments have now been closed by judicial order.
16 establishments closed in Adeje and Arona
The latest operation forms part of a wider National Police crackdown on premises suspected of using cannabis associations as a cover for illegal drug sales in the main tourist areas of southern Tenerife.
Since October 2025, 16 establishments have been judicially closed in Adeje and Arona following National Police investigations.
The latest operation is particularly relevant to Playa de las Américas because police say the Cannabis Clubs were attracting large numbers of tourists.
Investigations into this type of establishment have focused on determining whether cannabis associations are genuinely operating within their permitted framework or effectively functioning as commercial outlets for the sale of drugs.
The National Police operation in Playa de las Américas remains part of those wider efforts to tackle illegal drug distribution in Tenerife's principal tourist areas.
