A 27-year-old man has been arrested in the popular tourist town of Corralejo, Fuerteventura, after police say he was caught drink-driving with suspected drugs in his vehicle.
Local authorities say the man was stopped by officers and found to be more than three times over the legal alcohol limit. During a subsequent search of the car, police dogs uncovered eight packages believed to contain illegal substances.
He was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He is now facing charges related to both road safety and public health offences.
Police in the area have reported a sharp rise in drug-related incidents in recent months. So far in 2025, more than 300 reports have been filed for drug possession or public consumption, already exceeding the total for the whole of last year.
Officials attribute the spike to increased street patrols and an expanded role for the K9 unit, which has been instrumental in cracking down on low-level drug dealing.
