A Jet2 flight from Lanzarote to London Stansted was forced to turn back last Monday (9th June) after the crew reported signs of smoke in the cabin.
The alarm was raised shortly after take-off, prompting the pilots to request an immediate return to the Canary Islands airport. According to air traffic controllers on X (@Controladores), the aircraft was given a direct route back, with a continuous descent and priority landing on runway 03.
The emergency services were put on standby, and the plane landed safely, met by fire crews before coming to a complete stop on the tarmac. Firefighters carried out an inspection of the aircraft before it was towed away to clear the runway.
The incident led to some disruption at the airport as the runway remained closed during the checks. No injuries were reported, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the smoke warning.
