The Canary Islands are set for a warm Halloween although the weather will become more unsettled as a low-pressure system approaches from the west.
Cloud will increase across the archipelago, with light showers possible in some areas. Winds will be generally light along the coast, but stronger gusts are expected on the highest peaks.
The Canary Islands Government announced a rain pre-alert yesterday for Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. It comes into force at 9.00pm tonight because of the possibility of locally heavy showers as the system approaches.
Rain is expected to reach La Palma and El Hierro first, potentially spreading towards La Gomera and Tenerife tomorrow, Sunday. The system’s path remains uncertain, so the forecast could change.
Island-by-island forecast for Saturday 31st October 2026:
TENERIFE
Tenerife will see some brighter spells early in the day before cloud increases during the afternoon. There is a chance of scattered rain later, although the more unsettled weather is expected to arrive from Sunday.
Temperatures are forecast to reach around 24–26°C during the day in the south, with conditions varying between the coast and higher ground. Some light calima may also give the sky a hazy appearance.
Winds will be light in most coastal areas, but south-westerly winds will strengthen on the central peaks. Anyone planning to visit Teide should be prepared for strong gusts.
GRAN CANARIA
Gran Canaria will have a mixture of cloud and brighter spells, with low cloud more noticeable in northern and eastern areas early on. Cloud will develop through the day, with a chance of a shower over higher ground.
In Maspalomas, temperatures are expected to rise from around 20°C this morning to approximately 26°C this afternoon. Conditions may vary around the island, particularly between the coast and the interior.
Winds will generally be light, with a breeze along exposed coasts. Gran Canaria is not currently included in the regional rain pre-alert.
LANZAROTE
Lanzarote can expect cloudy intervals and some sunshine, with a chance of light rain during the afternoon. A little calima may remain visible.
Puerto del Carmen is forecast to see temperatures of around 21–26°C during the day. Winds will be generally light, coming mainly from the east.
The island is not currently covered by the rain pre-alert, although the position of the approaching system will continue to be monitored.
FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura will also see a mixture of cloud and brighter spells, with a chance of a little light rain later in the day. Temperatures across the island are expected to remain warm.
Forecast figures for Fuerteventura suggest temperatures of around 20–26°C during the day, although conditions will vary between areas including Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste and Morro Jable.
Winds will generally be light and easterly, becoming a little stronger in the southeast during the afternoon. Fuerteventura is not currently included in the rain pre-alert.
Sea conditions and the weekend
A north-westerly swell of around one to two metres is forecast, particularly along exposed northern and western coasts. Southern beaches may be more sheltered, but swimmers should always check local flags and conditions.
The weather is expected to become more unsettled as the weekend continues. Residents and visitors with outdoor plans should keep an eye on updated forecasts and any changes to official alerts.
