Young people across the Canary Islands eligible for new €400 grant

Young people across the Canary Islands who turn 18 this year are now eligible to apply for Spain’s €400 Cultural Bonus, giving them access to a wide range of products, digital services, live cultural events and concerts.

The scheme is run by Spain’s Ministry of Culture and opened today, Monday, for those born in 2007.

According to national figures, more than 534,000 people across Spain are eligible for the bonus this year, including thousands living in the Canary Islands.

Applications are open until 31st October 2025 and must be submitted online through the official government website. To apply, young people need to register and verify their identity using a digital ID, such as Cl@ve (which can be set up by video call or in person) or a digital certificate.

Parents or guardians can also complete the application on their behalf, as long as they provide the correct authorisation form.

Once approved, recipients get the €400 on a prepaid card, which can be used either through a mobile app or as a physical card sent to their home. The money is valid for 12 months and can be spent at around 3,700 approved shops and venues across Spain.

The bonus is divided into three spending categories to promote a variety of cultural experiences: €100 for physical items such as books or records, €100 for digital services like online subscriptions or audiobooks, and €200 for live cultural events including concerts, theatre, cinema, and museums.

The Ministry of Culture says the scheme is designed to encourage young people to engage with cultural activities and support Spain’s cultural sector, helping to create long-term audiences for the future.
