The 2025 edition of the Michelin Guide has brought remarkable recognition to the Canary Islands' gastronomic scene, affirming its position as a rising star in Spain's culinary landscape.
With four new restaurants earning their first Michelin stars, the islands continue to showcase their vibrant culinary talent and rich gastronomic traditions.
Tenerife Leads the Way
In Tenerife, two standout restaurants in Adeje have been honoured for their excellence. Donaire, located at the GF Victoria Hotel and led by chef Jesús Camacho, and Il Bocconcino, helmed by Niki Pavanelli at the Royal Hideaway Corales, have been awarded Michelin stars for their innovative takes on local flavours.
Lanzarote and Gran Canaria Join the Elite
Lanzarote celebrated the recognition of Kamezí, run by chef Rubén Cuesta in Playa Blanca. Meanwhile, in Gran Canaria, Muxgo, a project by Borja Marrero located in the Hotel Santa Catalina, joined the list of Michelin-starred establishments.
Muxgo already held a Michelin Green Star, recognising its commitment to sustainability, and now boasts a traditional Michelin star, further cementing its reputation.
Canarian Excellence in Madrid
Outside the islands, Gofio, the Madrid-based restaurant led by Canarian chef Safe Cruz, reclaimed its Michelin star. Known for reinventing traditional Canarian dishes, Gofio brings the essence of the archipelago to Spain's capital, enhancing the national and international profile of Canarian cuisine. "This Michelin star is a recognition of our passion and love for our roots," said Safe Cruz upon receiving the award.
A Culinary Renaissance
These accolades show the Canary Islands' culinary prowess, blending local ingredients with innovative techniques. From Tenerife's coastal charm to Lanzarote's volcanic landscapes, these restaurants integrate regional flavours into unique gastronomic experiences.
Experts in the field have praised the evolution of Canarian cuisine. "The Michelin Guide not only rewards quality but also identity, and the Canary Islands are shining brighter than ever," they note.
