The Gobierno de Canarias has declared a coastal alert across all islands, as rough seas driven by strong north-westerly swells are forecast to impact the archipelago. All islands except La Gomera are also under yellow warnings issued by AEMET.
Authorities warn of waves reaching four to five metres, especially along the more exposed north and west-facing coastlines. Eastern shores of El Hierro, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as the southeast of La Palma, are expected to experience less severe conditions, though still with notable swell.
High tide times
Residents and visitors are advised to take extra care during peak tides:
- Friday: 3:30am–4:10am and 3:55pm–4:30pm
- Saturday: 4:10am04:45am and 4:30pm–5:05pm
Safety advice from authorities
In light of the alert, the Government urges the public to follow key safety precautions:
- Avoid walking on or near breakwaters, harbour edges or sea walls.
- Do not take photos or videos close to where waves are breaking.
- Respect red-flag beach closures.
- Avoid swimming in areas with strong waves, rip currents or in isolated spots unfamiliar to visitors.
The alert will remain in force while adverse sea conditions persist, and further updates will be issued by emergency authorities.
