A cloudy start to the week with some sporadic rain in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are set for a cloudy start to the week today (Monday), particularly across the north of the islands, with the possibility of some light rain before skies clear later in the day.
According to the latest forecast from AEMET, any rainfall is expected to be light and mainly affect mid-altitude areas in the north of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Conditions should gradually improve during the afternoon, with sunnier spells becoming more widespread.
Maximum temperatures will remain largely unchanged or rise slightly in some areas, while overnight and early morning temperatures are expected to increase slightly.
Winds will generally be light to moderate from the north or northeast, although stronger conditions are possible in exposed areas and at higher altitudes.
Sea conditions will range from slight to moderate, becoming rougher as the day progresses. A northwesterly swell is also forecast, producing waves of between one and two metres.
Overall, Monday will bring a mixture of cloud and sunshine across the Canary Islands, with the best of the weather expected in southern areas and during the afternoon.
Island-by-island forecast for Monday 24th August 2026:
Tenerife
Northern Tenerife will see cloudy skies during the morning, with a small chance of light rain, particularly in mid-altitude areas. Conditions are forecast to improve after midday. Elsewhere on the island, skies will be mostly clear or sunny, although there may be some cloud in southeastern areas during the morning.
Winds will be light to moderate from the north to northeast, while westerly winds at higher altitudes are expected to strengthen, becoming moderate to strong over the central peaks.
Temperatures will remain similar to recent days or rise slightly, reaching 30°C along parts of the southern coast and in the southeast of the island.
General temperature range: Low of 24°C and a high of 30°C.
Gran Canaria
Cloudy conditions are also forecast in the north of Gran Canaria, where there is a small chance of light rain, particularly in the mid-altitudes. Skies should become clearer after midday.
The rest of the island will be mostly sunny, with temperatures remaining stable or rising slightly, particularly in the southeast.
Temperatures could locally reach 30°C in southern and western coastal and mid-altitude areas.
General temperature range: Low of 24°C and a high of 28°C.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Both eastern islands will start the day with intervals of cloud before becoming mostly sunny or clear after midday.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, although minimum temperatures will rise slightly. Highs of around 30°C are likely in southeastern parts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
General temperature range: Low of 22°C and a high of 29°C.
