A three-year-old child has been hospitalised after being rescued from the sea yesterday evening (Saturday), showing symptoms of near-drowning at Papagayo beach in Lanzarote.
According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the alarm was raised at 7:05pm after people at the beach rescued the young child from the water.
CECOES immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the beach, including two ambulances with paramedics on board to treat the child.
On arrival, they assessed and treated the three-year-old, who was initially showing symptoms consistent with drowning, having ingested a lot of seawater.
After being stabilised at the scene, the child was transferred by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote for further treatment and routine observation.
The child's condition was officially classified as moderate at the time of the transfer and that hasn’t been updated at this time.
The Guardia Civil and Local Police also attended the incident and assisted with the emergency response.
