The General Directorate of Emergencies has issued a pre-alert for high temperatures affecting Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria, starting from 7:00am tomorrow (Saturday August 10th), with highs in excess of 36°C expected in some areas.
This alert follows forecasts from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) and other sources, in accordance with the Canary Islands Specific Emergency Plan for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA) as outlined in Decree 18/2014, March 20.
The General Directorate of Emergencies advises the public to follow self-protection guidelines to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat.
- Staying hydrated and avoiding excessive physical exertion during peak heat hours.
- Wearing light, breathable clothing and using sun protection.
- Checking on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and those with health conditions.
- Keeping homes cool by using fans or air conditioning and closing blinds during the hottest part of the day.
- Both residents and holidaymakers are urged to remain vigilant and prepared for the anticipated heatwave.
