A 51-year-old man has been arrested by off-duty officers from the Guardia Civil in Candelaria (Tenerife), after being caught red-handed in the act of breaking-in and stealing items from several parked vehicles in the municipality.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday morning when the officers, who were nearby, heard unusual noises and noticed suspicious movements.
Acting on their observations, they intercepted the suspect as he was stealing items from inside one of the vehicles, according to an official statement from the Guardia Civil.
Upon detaining the man, officers discovered that he was in possession of various stolen valuables, which led to his immediate arrest as the suspected perpetrator of multiple counts of theft and break-ins.
The recovered items, valued at approximately €2,150, included expensive sunglasses, branded clothing, and specialised climbing and rescue equipment. The Guardia Civil noted that the suspect already has a police record for similar offences.
He has since been handed over to the Candelaria Magistrates’ Court along with the related case documentation to face sentencing.
