The Canary Islands will start the week under predominantly cloudy skies and with maximum temperatures expected to rise slightly in some inland areas of Gran Canaria and the eastern islands, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
In Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and La Palma, Monday will see mainly cloudy conditions in the north, clearing up during the central hours of the day, while the rest of the island slopes will experience mostly clear skies. Over in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the day will start with some cloud cover in the morning, becoming largely clear as the day progresses.
The wind will blow from the northeast, occasionally reaching strong intervals on the northwestern and southeastern slopes of the mountainous islands, with the possibility of very strong gusts later in the day.
Out at sea, winds from the north or northeast will range from force 4 to 5, creating moderate seas that will become rougher offshore. A northerly swell of around one metre is also expected.
Here’s a closer look at the forecast by island for Monday:
LANZAROTE:
Generally clear skies with some cloud during the early and later parts of the day, especially in the north. Minimum temperatures will see little change, while maximums may rise slightly. Northeasterly winds will become stronger inland, intensifying towards the end of the day.
Expected temperature range: min 20°C and max 28°C.
FUERTEVENTURA:
Mainly clear with some morning cloud. Minimum temperatures steady, maximums rising slightly. Northeasterly winds will be occasionally strong inland as well as in Jandía and along the southwest coast, strengthening later.
Expected temperature range: min 21°C and max 26°C.
GRAN CANARIA:
Cloudy in the north up to around 900–1,100 metres, clearing during the day. Elsewhere mostly clear. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, with slight increases in maximums inland. Northeasterly winds will be occasionally strong on the southeast and northwest slopes, with a chance of very strong gusts towards the evening. Light coastal breezes will prevail in the southwest.
Expected temperature range: min 21°C and max 25°C.
TENERIFE:
Partly cloudy on the northern slopes up to around 1,100–1,200 metres, with brighter spells during midday hours. The rest of the island will be mostly clear, aside from some morning cloud along the coasts. Temperatures stable or slightly up in inland areas. Northeasterly winds will occasionally be strong on the southeastern and far western slopes, with a possibility of very strong gusts overnight. In the high peaks, light variable winds will shift to moderate southerlies later. Breezes will dominate along the southwest coast.
