Spain’s most incredible viewpoint is in the Canary Islands,

Some places simply steal your breath away, suspended between sky and earth. They don’t just offer a view, they provide a complete sensory experience that invites silence and awe.

One such spot sits atop a small Atlantic gem: a village recently named Spain’s most beautiful by international media. Here, you don’t just look at the landscape — you soar above it.

The village of Agulo

Located on the island of La Gomera, the municipality of Agulo has been highlighted by the British newspaper The Times as one of the most stunning places in Spain. And it’s no surprise. Its traditional houses, red-tiled rooftops and lush natural surroundings have earned it a well-deserved place on many travellers’ itineraries.

But there’s something that makes Agulo truly unique: a striking glass structure perched over 600 metres above sea level, transforming this Canarian corner into a must-see destination.

The Mirador de Abrante

Built in 2014, the Mirador de Abrante covers more than 3,000 square metres. What sets it apart is its remarkable walkway: a glass box that juts seven metres out over the side of a cliff, supported by a sturdy metal framework and reinforced concrete beam.

Standing at the end of this platform, visitors find themselves quite literally floating above a natural balcony with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean, the village of Agulo below, and the majestic silhouette of Mount Teide on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.

Dining with a view

Just steps from the viewpoint is Restaurante Abrante, where guests can savour some of the Canary Islands’ most emblematic dishes while enjoying the spectacular scenery.

For those planning a visit, it’s worth noting that entry to the Mirador de Abrante is free, and it’s located very close to the Juego de Bolas Visitor Centre, an excellent starting point for exploring the charms of La Gomera.

Opening hours

The viewpoint’s opening times vary throughout the year:

  • June to September: 11:00am to 7:00pm
  • October to November: 10:00am to 6:00pm

With its postcard-perfect setting and no admission fee, this viewpoint stands out as one of the true treasures of the Canary Islands — a place where the archipelago reveals its most spectacular side, suspended between sky and sea.
