A 27-year-old British man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil at Lanzarote airport after officers discovered four kilograms of cannabis concealed in his suitcase.
The arrest, announced today (Monday) by the Guardia Civil, took place on 29th June during a routine inspection in Terminal T2, which handles inter-island flights.
According to official reports, airport security officers identified a suitcase that appeared suspicious due to its unusually light weight relative to its size, coupled with a strong odour.
Four vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis found in suitcase
Acting on suspicions that the luggage could contain illegal substances, officers located the owner and carried out an inspection of the suitcase in his presence. Inside, they found four vacuum-sealed bags, each containing roughly one kilogram of cannabis buds, amounting to a total of four kilos with an estimated street value of €7,260.
The man was preparing to board a flight to Tenerife South Airport when his luggage was intercepted. Following the discovery, Guardia Civil officers seized the drugs, took custody of the suspect, and placed him at the disposal of the Court of Instruction Number 1 in Arrecife.
The man is now facing charges related to offences against public health.
