British Airways moves Fuerteventura flights from Gatwick to Heathrow this winter

British Airways is switching its direct Fuerteventura flights from London Gatwick to Heathrow, giving the island its first direct connection with the UK’s busiest airport.

The new service starts on 13th December and will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, until 11th April 2027. Flights will use Heathrow’s Terminal 5.

The change is a switch of London airport for British Airways’ Fuerteventura service, rather than a new Gatwick and Heathrow route running alongside each other. Travellers should check their booking carefully, particularly if they have onward travel planned from London.

Fuerteventura’s tourism board is promoting the new connection at the World Travel Market in London this week. The island is forecasting 442,000 scheduled airline seats from the UK during the 2026/27 winter season, with the UK remaining its leading overseas market.

The British market continues to be important to the island’s visitor economy. Fuerteventura received 418,546 passengers from the UK in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 1.43% compared with the same period last year, according to figures from the island’s tourism board.

Heathrow is a major international hub, and the new route gives travellers the option of flying directly to Fuerteventura from the airport and connecting through British Airways’ wider network. The island’s tourism representatives are also meeting airlines and tour operators in London as they promote the winter season.
