MONDAY WEATHER: Rain and clouds in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, but sunny in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura

The Canary Islands are starting the week with a mixture of sunshine, cloud and further rain today, Monday 2nd November, as the low-pressure system continues to affect the archipelago.

The Canary Islands Government raised the rain warning to a maximum alert for eastern La Palma at 2.00am today after intense rainfall was recorded overnight. The rest of La Palma, along with El Hierro and La Gomera, remains on alert.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria are on rain pre-alert. Locally heavy showers are still possible, particularly in northern Tenerife and the metropolitan area, although conditions will vary across both islands.

Island-by-island forecast for bank holiday Monday:

TENERIFE
Tenerife can expect a mixture of cloud and brighter spells, with the possibility of further showers during the day. Some could be locally heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in the north and northeast.

Yesterday’s rain was felt across several southern and western areas. Around El Médano and Tenerife South Airport, approximately 26mm fell in one hour during the morning. By 8.00pm, reported totals included 46.4mm in Las Cañadas del Teide and 38.5mm at Montaña Chavao, above Guía de Isora.

In the Costa Adeje area, temperatures are forecast to rise from around 18°C this morning to approximately 24°C during the day. Snow and ice remain a concern at higher altitudes, so anyone planning a trip to Teide should check access restrictions before setting off.

GRAN CANARIA
Gran Canaria will see cloudy intervals and some sunshine, especially around the middle of the day. However, showers remain possible and could be locally heavy in some areas.

The island remains on rain pre-alert, and conditions may change quickly between the coast and higher ground. Anyone heading out walking should check the latest forecast and local advice.

In Maspalomas, temperatures are forecast to range from around 21°C this morning to 26–27°C during the afternoon. Winds will generally be light to moderate, although exposed areas may feel breezier.

LANZAROTE
Lanzarote is expected to enjoy brighter spells, with sunshine and passing cloud through the day. The island is not included in the current regional rain alert or pre-alert.

In Puerto del Carmen, temperatures are forecast to climb from around 22°C this morning to approximately 27°C during the afternoon. Conditions may vary in Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and inland areas.

Winds will be light to moderate, generally from the east during the first part of the day before changing direction later.

FUERTEVENTURA
Fuerteventura can also expect sunny spells and some cloud, with more cloud possible later in the day. The island is not currently included in the regional rain alert or pre-alert.

Forecast temperatures across the island are around 19–26°C during the day, although conditions will vary between areas such as Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste and Morro Jable.

Winds will generally be light to moderate, with an easterly breeze during the first part of the day.

Sea conditions

A north-westerly swell of around one to two metres is forecast on exposed northern coasts. Beach conditions can vary, so swimmers should check local flags and follow lifeguards’ instructions.

The emergency services advise people in areas affected by heavy rain to avoid flooded roads and ravines and to check for updated warnings before travelling.
