The two largest tour operators in the UK have hit the accelerator and announced a significant increase in capacity for the summer of 2024. According to data published by the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday, both Jet2 and TUI have requested an increase in seats protected by ATOL insurance.
This is a compensation fund that safeguards customers who have booked a holiday package that includes a flight in the event of the tour operator or airline's bankruptcy.
Jet2 extends its lead with an increase of 850,000 protected seats, bringing its total to 6.7 million over TUI UK which has followed suit with an increase of 522,000 protected seats, reaching 5.9 million. When combined with its subsidiary Marella Cruises' offerings, the figure rises to 6.2 million.
EasyJet Holidays leads the way in the seat increase, adding 980,720 to reach a total of 2.2 million. However, this significant growth does not yet surpass Loveholidays (2.6 million) and Booking.com (2.3 million).
Rounding out the top 10 are On the Beach, British Airways Holidays, BravoNext (Lastminute.com), Marella, and Travel Republic.
