Dense fog caused disruption at Tenerife North Airport yesterday evening, Tuesday, forcing the cancellation of at least two flights and creating difficulties for other aircraft trying to land.
Visibility at the airport dropped to around 400 metres as a bank of low cloud covered Los Rodeos late in the afternoon, affecting flight operations.
According to Radio Televisión Canaria (RTVC), at least two incoming services were cancelled because of the conditions. The affected flights were arriving from Lanzarote and Barcelona.
Other aircraft also experienced difficulties landing as poor visibility continued into the evening.
Tenerife North Airport's elevated position in La Laguna means it can be particularly susceptible to low cloud and fog, which can reduce visibility around the runway and affect arrivals and departures.
Passengers travelling through the airport today, Wednesday 9th September, should check the latest status of their flight directly with their airline before travelling to the airport, particularly in case of any knock-on disruption from Tuesday evening.
Travellers should also make sure they are checking the correct airport, as the reported fog disruption affected Tenerife North (TFN) rather than Tenerife South (TFS).
