Dolphin stranded on a beach in La Graciosa dies

A dolphin stranded on the beach of Las Conchas in La Graciosa had to be euthanised yesterday (Sunday), as it couldn't be returned to the sea because it was in very poor health.

The small cetacean only had a heartbeat every 4 seconds and would have drowned if put back in the water.

The procedure was carried out by the competent authorities following the established protocols for cases like this, where it is considered kinder to euthanise the animal than subject it to more suffering.

Unfortunately, this situation is not uncommon and can occur when a dolphin strays from its route. Lanzarote is an important passage for dolphins, porpoises, and whales in the Canary Islands.
