Weather warning activated for strong waves and dangerous sea conditions

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has informed of a yellow weather warning for adverse sea conditions around the coasts of the Canary Islands, which will be in effect on Friday, 17th June, for 24 hours on the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro.

Upcoming winds from the northeast with strong gusts on the northwest and southeast slopes of the most mountainous islands are set to cause dangerous sea conditions in the all areas of the four islands, and the wind will intensify in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote on that day.

AEMET are warning of large waves, strong swells, and dangerous undercurrents, particularly in the east, south and west of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and advises people to take caution and only go into the sea on beaches where there are lifeguards, and to avoid red flags.
