Four rescued from the sea off Fuerteventura, one in serious condition

Four people were rescued from the sea yesterday (Friday) after getting into difficulty approximately 100 metres off the coast at El Moro beach, in the north of Fuerteventura.

One of them was reported to be in a serious condition, showing signs of drowning, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred at around 3:00pm, which is when CECOES received an alert reporting that four people were struggling in the water some distance from the shore.

While emergency teams were en route, personnel from the Red Cross Beach Rescue Service managed to assist three of them, while the fourth managed to reach the shore unaided.

SUC medics treated a man who was showing serious symptoms of drowning. He was initially stabilised at the beach before being transported by ambulance to Corralejo health centre, and later transferred to Fuerteventura General Hospital for further treatment.

The Local Police were also at the scene and responsible for carrying out the necessary formalities and incident reports.
