The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has announced that the Canary Islands will experience generally clear skies today, Tuesday, with a light haze (calima) at higher levels over Gran Canaria and the eastern islands.
However, temperatures are expected to drop slightly, accompanied by northerly to north-easterly winds that will be strong at times, with the possibility of very strong gusts.
Yellow warning issued again for the Canary Islands this week
The strongest gusts are expected in low-lying areas on the southeast and northwest slopes of Tenerife and the more mountainous islands, particularly towards the evening when winds are forecast to intensify slightly.
There may also be localised strong gusts on the southern face of the Anaga massif in Tenerife, the southeast of Lanzarote, and the southern slopes of the Jandía massif in Fuerteventura.
Rough seas and variable winds on southern coasts
At sea, AEMET is forecasting northerly winds at force 4 or 5, locally reaching 6 or 7, with moderate to rough seas. On the southern coasts, winds will be more variable, ranging from force 1 to 3. A northwesterly swell is also expected, with waves between 1 and 2 metres, along with haze and reduced visibility.
Forecast by islands:
LANZAROTE:
Mainly clear or sunny, although cloudier in the north and west. A light haze will persist at higher altitudes. Temperatures will see little change. Northerly winds will be strong at times in the southeast during the early morning and evening, with occasional very strong gusts not ruled out.
Temperature range: Min 20°C / Max 27°C.
FUERTEVENTURA:
Similar conditions with predominantly clear skies, though more cloud is expected in the north and west. Light haze in the upper layers. Temperatures will remain steady. Northerly winds will be strong at times, with occasional very strong gusts likely on the southern slopes of the Jandía massif, especially early and late in the day.
Temperature range: Min 19°C / Max 26°C.
GRAN CANARIA:
Generally clear, with cloudier skies in the low-lying northern areas. Light haze over mid-altitudes and summits. Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged, while maximums are expected to fall slightly except along the northern and southern coasts where little change is expected. Temperatures could still exceed 30-32°C locally in the southern midlands. Northerly winds will be strong at intervals, with occasional very strong gusts in low areas of the southeast and west, becoming more noticeable towards the evening. Breezes will dominate in the south, with light and variable winds on the central summits.
Temperature range: Min 20°C / Max 26°C.
TENERIFE:
Mostly clear to sunny, with more cloud expected in low-lying northern areas. Temperatures will see a slight to moderate drop in mid-altitudes, staying more stable elsewhere. Northerly winds will be strong at intervals with locally very strong gusts in the far northwest and on the southern slopes of the Anaga massif. Breezes will dominate in the west, with light and variable winds on the central peaks.
Temperature range: Min 20°C / Max 27°C.
