Emergency and Rescue Lanzarote (Emerlan) carried out three separate rescues over the weekend to assist six people who found themselves in dangerous situations at sea, once again underlining their commitment to coastal safety on the island.
The first intervention took place on Saturday when a small boat was left adrift. The rescue team successfully towed it safely back to port, preventing what could have become a more serious incident.
A few hours later, Emerlan responded to an emergency involving a jet ski. Two riders had fallen into the sea, and because the jet ski did not have a “kill cord” or man-overboard system activated, it continued to travel uncontrolled. A crew member from the GES-EMERLAN rescue boat jumped into the water, managed to intercept the runaway jet ski, and returned it to its owners.
On Sunday, the rescue team was called to Puerto del Carmen, where three tourists using lilos had been carried out by strong currents. A lifeguard, supported by a rescue vessel, reached them and brought them safely back to the harbour. Thankfully, none of those involved required medical attention.
Ongoing commitment to coastal safety
With these latest interventions, Emerlan once again demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the safety of Lanzarote’s coastline, particularly during periods of high tourist activity. Visitors and residents are reminded to exercise caution when enjoying the sea, always use appropriate safety equipment, and pay attention to local conditions and advice.
