A British tourist has died nearly ten months after he and a friend fell six metres when a safety railing reportedly collapsed at a holiday apartment complex in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

Nicholas Thomas was 54 and suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident on 25th October 2025. His friend, 56-year-old Darren Silcox, died at the scene.

The two men were reportedly leaning against a railing beside a stairwell when it suddenly gave way at around 1.30am. Both fell approximately six metres to the ground below.

Mr Thomas was taken by ambulance in a critical condition to Lanzarote’s main hospital. Despite remaining in hospital for almost ten months, he died from complications linked to his injuries on 10th July 2026.

The Local police and the Guardia Civil attended the complex after the accident and cordoned off the area while initial enquiries were carried out.

An investigation was opened to establish why the railing collapsed and whether its condition or the maintenance of the holiday complex played a part in the accident. The investigation remains ongoing, with no findings made public so far.
