A 28-year-old man has died after falling from a height of approximately 50 metres in the north of Tenerife on Sunday afternoon.
The tragic incident occurred near Playa de Los Roques, in the municipality of Los Realejos.
According to official reports, the man, identified by the initials D.V.A., was a local resident and is believed to have been walking along a trail that had been officially closed due to frequent landslides and dangerous terrain.
The trail, which has been marked as off-limits by the Cabildo, poses a known risk due to unstable cliffs and rockfalls. It is from this path that the man is thought to have fallen down the cliff face to the beach below. Emergency services were alerted by a witness who called the 1-1-2 emergency hotline.
Firefighters, the Local Police, the National Police, and SUC paramedics were all dispatched to the scene. Sadly, they could only confirm the man’s death upon arrival due to the injuries he sustained in the fall.
While the exact cause of the fall is still under investigation, authorities are currently treating the case as a possible suicide, based on preliminary findings.
Just days ago, a similar incident was reported in Playa de Las Gaviotas, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Ministry of Health reminds the public that help is available 24/7 for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts.
