The National Police have arrested a man accused of committing 16 robberies in Lanzarote in just two months since he was released from Tahíche prison where he has spent the last nine years for property crimes.
They started an investigation after a spree of thefts at various commercial premises in the municipality of Arrecife were reported, and via CCTV and victim’s statements, identified the suspect as the man who had only been released from prison in March.
After getting a warrant, the police conducted a search of the suspect's place of residence, where they recovered numerous stolen items and tools used in the various thefts.
In addition to the primary suspect, another man was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the latest robbery. This incident took place at the second man's workplace, where over 8,000 euros in cash was stolen.
Following the completion of the police report, the suspects were brought before the competent judicial authority. The primary suspect has been ordered to return to prison.
