The emergency services were once again called to Los Charcones, in the municipality of Yaiza, Lanzarote, yesterday (Monday), after four tourists were dragged into the sea by a large wave. The group, made up of two couples, one from Catalonia and the other from France, were enjoying the coastal area when they were suddenly caught by the swell.

According to the Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium, the alarm was raised just before 12:00 pm, reporting that several bathers had been swept into the water. Fortunately, all four managed to get out by themselves, though some had sustained injuries.

Firefighters assisted the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as the rocky natural pools at Los Charcones are notoriously difficult to reach for ambulances and medical staff.

A 25-year-old man and a 43-year-old man were both taken by ambulance to Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife with moderate injuries and bruising. Another man, aged 23, had only minor cuts and scrapes and was taken by firefighters to the Playa Blanca Health Centre. The fourth person was a woman; she was not hurt and did not need medical treatment.

The Canary Islands remain on alert for rough sea conditions, with authorities warning of waves reaching up to four metres along the north and west coasts of Lanzarote, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria. Emergency services have urged everyone to stay away from natural pools, breakwaters, and rocky coastlines, as large waves can appear suddenly and sweep people into the water without warning.

Despite repeated alerts, several people have ignored the warnings in recent days. In Tenerife, six French tourists were injured at Roque de las Bodegas after venturing too close to the shore, and three people tragically lost their lives when powerful waves hit the island’s coast over the weekend
