Jet2 flight LS138, which departed from Fuerteventura and bound for Glasgow, was forced to make a diversion and emergency landing at Santiago de Compostela Airport in Spain yesterday (Monday) due to reports of possible smoke in the cabin.
According to Air Traffic Controllers, the crew declared an emergency as the aircraft approached the Galician coast. "The crew of the flight from Fuerteventura to Glasgow reported possible smoke onboard and requested a diversion to Santiago," they stated on their official X account.
Controllers promptly cleared the flight path by redirecting other planes for their descent and provided a direct route to ensure the plane could approach runway 35 at Santiago with maximum priority.
Successful Landing
The plane landed safely without further incidents and was escorted off the runway by fire services as a precautionary measure. After a thorough inspection of the runway, normal traffic operations resumed. “We appreciate the collaboration of all involved crews,” added the air traffic controllers.
No injuries or further complications were reported. Passengers were safely disembarked following the landing, and the cause of the smoke is under investigation.
