VIDEO: Driverless van hits a teenager and almost ends up in the sea

A driverless van was caught on camera yesterday as it crashed backwards through a stone wall by the Bajamar pools in La Laguna in the north of Tenerife, hit a teenage girl knocking her into the water, and was left balancing on the portside as it nearly fell in to the sea.

The incident took place around 2:00pm yesterday afternoon, when emergency services received a call saying that a young girl, who was sitting between the fence and the wall, had been hit by the ‘runaway’ vehicle that crashed through the wall of the busy La Laguna beach.

Fire-fighters were dispatched to secure the vehicle, and an ambulance was sent to attend to the girl who miraculously didn’t suffer any serious injuries but was transferred to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands for treatment and routine observation.

The van was left hanging in the air and it was the Tenerife Consortium Fire-fighters who were in charge of removing it with the help of a crane, a fire truck and two steel cables.
