Fuerteventura is expected to see a significant rise in cruise ship visits next season, following an announcement by German cruise line AIDA.

AIDA Cruises will cancel all planned routes to and from the Middle East for winter 2025/26.

The decision affects cruises to destinations such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi and has been attributed to the current “unreliable” situation in the region, according to a company statement.

In addition to the winter routes, AIDA will also cancel related cruises planned for autumn 2025 and spring 2026. As an alternative, the AIDAprima will now operate several itineraries through Northern Europe and the Canary Islands, offering new opportunities for ports like Fuerteventura.

One of the newly announced trips is a 23-day itinerary titled the Great Winter Escape to the Canary Islands, which will take passengers along the Western European coast to the Canaries and back.

Looking ahead to spring 2026, the AIDAbella will take over the Canaries routes and will undergo a major renovation at the Marseille shipyard in France beforehand, as part of the largest modernisation programme under the company’s “AIDA Evolution” initiative.

AIDA says the early decision to reroute is aimed at providing customers with clear and reliable information ahead of the busy winter season. The safety of passengers and crew remains their “top priority,” the company stressed.

Travellers who had already booked one of the affected cruises will be offered an alternative trip. Additionally, AIDA is offering a voucher worth 10% of the original cabin price (excluding travel and insurance) to compensate for the cancellations. This voucher can be redeemed on future bookings made before 30th September 2025.
