Covid update: 99 new cases as incidence rates are lowest for over a year

The Ministry of Health has reported 99 new cases of Covid in the Canary Islands today, against 677 medical discharges which has reduced active cases to 2,891. Of these 217 are in hospital wards, 45 are in ICU, and 2,629 are in home isolation. They have also reported of one death in the last 24 hours, in Gran Canaria.

The incidence rates for the islands continue to drop, and today they are the lowest they’ve been since August 2020 with an IA7 of 28.95 and IA14 of 64.48 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In fact, the positivity rate of tests has dropped to below 3%, occupancy by Covid patients has decreased, and the R rate is still below 1, in fact the only statistic to increase is the percentage of cases from the Delta variant, which is now at 96.7%, which is why vaccination is so important.
