Covid update: 167 new cases and 2 deaths in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands has registered a slight upturn in new cases today by adding 167 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of people infected to 39,492 since the start of the pandemic. Of these, 6,252 are still active; another 83 are admitted to the Intensive Care; a total of 288 are admitted to hospital wards; and the rest, 5,881 continue treatment in their homes.

In the last 24 hours, two new deaths have been registered in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, which brings the total number of fatalities in the islands due to this global pandemic to 573.

Of the new cases 90 were detected in Gran Canaria, 56 in Tenerife, 16 in Lanzarote and 5 in Fuerteventura. Ironically, as you can see below, these numbers mean that Lanzarote’s incidence rates have dropped below the thresholds of 125 (IA7) and 250 (IA14) to move in to Level 3 and continue in the right direction for a change next week. Also Gran Canaria’s have both gone up on the day it’s announced they are going down to Level 2.
