Covid update: Over 200 new daily cases for the first time in almost 3 months

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands has confirmed 228 new cases of coronavirus today, the highest number in over two months and confirming signs now of an upward trend in the islands. The total number of accumulated cases is now 98,778 with 1,636 active, of which 22 are admitted to ICU, 126 are in hospital wards, and 1,488 are in home isolation.

They have also confirmed that almost 10% of new cases are ‘imported’, particularly from the UK and Germany, and that 70% are in the 20 to 49 age group who are the ones refusing vaccination.

By islands, Tenerife has added the most new cases with 125, followed by Gran Canaria with 64, Lanzarote with 16, Fuerteventura with 15, La Gomera with 6, La Palma with 2, and none in El Hierro. The good news is that no Covid related deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
