Covid update: Downward trend continues with 57 new cases today

The Ministry of Health has informed of 57 new cases today in the Canary Islands, taking the total number of accumulated cases to 95,219 since the pandemic began, with 1,365 active cases, of which 31 are admitted to ICU and 138 are in Covid wards. In the 24 last hours, two people have died in the Canary Islands: a 76-year-old man in Gran Canaria and a 72-year-old woman in Lanzarote. Both had previous pathologies and were already admitted to hospital.

Of the new cases today, 25 are in Tenerife, 14 are in Gran Canaria, 13 are in Lanzarote, 5 are in Fuerteventura, and there are no new cases reported in La Palma, La Gomera or El Hierro.

The incidence rates have dropped again today with the IA7 for the islands now standing at 24.86 and the IA14 is at 51.06 as the two week period needed to fully analyse the data takes effect.

With all of the islands now in Level 1 and Level 2, the protection offered by vaccinations is also having an effect as almost 85% of the target population over 12 years old have now had one jab, almost 83% are fully vaccinated, and booster jabs are already being administered. These are all good signs that this time the virus is being controlled and beaten.
